All My Life (film) by Marc Meyers, is based on the true story of a young, fun-loving couple, Jennifer Carter and Solomon Chau, whose wedding planning is hindered by a recently discovered predicament.
Jennifer, a cheerful girl pursuing her master’s degree in psychology meets Sol, a charming digital marketing analyst at a sports bar and they instantly hit it off. Jenn, who doesn’t like to work out, meets Sol in a park the next morning and realizes that he is the man she wants to spend the rest of her life with.
Sol has a passion for cooking but unable to quit on money, he remains stuck in his current, mundane job. Jenn helps Sol realize his true passion by throwing a Thanksgiving party where her cousin could taste the delicious dishes prepared by Sol and give him a job at her restaurant. She inspires him to leave his job to follow his heart. We are then welcomed into the world of Jenn and Sol as they enjoy with each other, throwing parties, and moving in together.
Finally, Sol proposes to Jenn in an adorable flash mob singing “Don’t Look Back In Anger” with their friends dancing, for marriage and soon they start to plan their dream wedding. But their happiness turns out to be short-lived. Sol gets diagnosed with liver cancer, which keeps getting worse. They call off their wedding to save money for the treatment, but their friends rally together to give them the ceremony they both deserve, collecting the money through community support.
The star cast has done a marvelous job pulling together a true story of love and hope. Jessica Rothe has done a commendable job in bringing Jenn to life, with her being bright and cheerful in the beginning and brave and supportive towards the end, to help Sol fight back and never losing hope. Harry Shum Jr. has also given an excellent performance as a kind-hearted and charming Sol. Both the actors share wonderful chemistry with each other and there is no doubt why they both are perfect for each other.
The movie has wonderful moments like a typical romantic comedy movie, the dates, the beautiful proposal, and most importantly the wedding. But All My Life isn’t just about romantic moments, it also shows how a couple manages through a difficult situation like this, and still, support and be with each other. The scene where Jenn and Sol fight over the treatments vividly captures the frustration and helplessness that comes with the hardship.
